This is my first of what I hope are many Thriving Thursday posts. On Thursdays I want to share tips, tricks, life hacks, etc… that make my life with chronic pain a little simpler and easier. When living in pain, there simply are times when you CANNOT expend un-needed energy on mundane tasks – you need that energy for things like eating, personal hygiene, and moving around.

So, today’s Thriving Thursday tip is for the kitchen. 2 words:

Aluminum. Foil.

Or as we called it when I was a kid… tin foil. lol.

Whatever you call it, it was a BIG energy saver for me when my RA was at its worst and I still use it on those days I know I don’t want to stand at the sink scrubbing dishes for too long.

Whenever I had to bake something messy in the oven – roasts, pork chops, or even roasted veggies, I lined the cooking sheet with aluminum foil, then sprayed a little cooking spray on the foil, then added the food.

When dinner was done baking and it was time for the dishes, I just had to peel away the foil and usually the baking sheet was almost clean underneath – clean enough that it could go in the dishwasher and I would not have to stand at the sink scrubbing… or worse yet, let it soak overnight and then have to scrub it in the morning.
